David Dittrich
project director
„The most extensive part of the project, called Czech Dreams in Lviv: A Week of Czech-Ukrainian Partnership, was a unique event in terms of its format, content, and, above all, its social impact. While preparing the program for Lviv, we had no idea how deeply emotional, even symbolic, its impact could be. Czech culture has left a significant mark in Lviv and has inspired dozens of new cultural collaborations.”

Grigory Semenschuk (UA)
organizer
"We didn't have much time to prepare, and after the serious rocket attacks on Lviv in September, there was a risk that we would have to postpone our project. But our Czech colleagues were firmly determined to come, believing that now was actually the right time to show their solidarity with our city and Ukraine. During these days, I also heard many words of thanks from our Czech colleagues to our soldiers… I am glad that we were able to create a program that not only connected our cultures but also brought practical exchanges of experience and support in these difficult times in areas such as healthcare, rehabilitation, ecology and energy, education, and weapons for Ukraine."

Maksym Kozytskyi (UA)
Governor of Lviv Region
"During this festival, I felt the sincere willingness of Ukraine and the Czech Republic to cooperate in the future. We are very pleased that this festival took place in Lviv, which was recently granted the status of a sister city of Brno. We are grateful to the people and authorities of the Czech Republic because we truly feel your support in all areas. With such allies, we will certainly achieve victory and a just peace for Ukraine."

David Nový
General of the Czech Republic in Lviv
“… Watching Czech and Ukrainian artists perform together, seeing the local audience of all ages drawn to the melodies of the Moravian cimbalom in the farthest alleys of old Lviv, witnessing spontaneous performances by Czech musicians in Lviv’s cafés, hospitals, or even observing the enthusiasm of the audience in a hospital shelter reassured me that art can do more than ‘just’ provide cultural experiences… Art connects, expresses solidarity, offers support, and builds friendships…”

Johana Merta
Artist
"Our idea of life in Ukraine is distorted, merely an illusion. The air there is so heavy that I could barely breathe. That weight is abstract, but it lies on everyone; I felt it everywhere… I am grateful that I could be in Lviv in 2024. It was an important life experience for me. I realized that FREEDOM is not just a word."

Vilém Spilka
Member of the SAKOBI Trio
"My previously quiet support for Ukraine has at least transformed into a slightly louder one. And since I prefer to express myself through music rather than words, playing in Ukraine for Ukrainians—and ultimately with Ukrainians—seemed to me the most suitable alternative. Moreover, Lviv is a beautiful city with a relaxed, almost Western European atmosphere, seemingly untouched by the war. However, the air raid alarm during our performance with SAKOBI at the Dzyga club quickly brought me back to reality. The war is here, no matter how different it may look on the surface."

Aleš Březina
Dramaturge of the Czech Dreams Project
"During my stay in Lviv as part of the Czech Dreams festival, I became more aware than ever of the power of culture in general and music in particular. The gratitude our Ukrainian partners felt and expressed at every step was mirrored by the realization of each visiting artist that living in a free and democratic society is far from being taken for granted."
