The last month of the Year of Czech Music 2024 is also the last month of the 5th year of Czech Dreams. From our homeland, we are heading exclusively south in December; the 2,500 km long route will take Czech music from 8° to 16° East longitude - from Amarante in Portugal to Varaždin in Croatia. The winter ambassadors of the Czech Dreams will be Ivo Kahánek, Jan Mráček, Lukáš Klánský, the Gankino Quintet and the Bennewitz Quartet.
On Thursday, 12 December, Pesaro, Italy will welcome the virtuoso duo Jan Mráček & Lukáš Klánský in the Salone Metaurense in the magnificent Doge's Palace / Palazzo Ducale. The concert, featuring music by Bedřich Smetana, Erich W. Korngold and Leoš Janáček, will be opened by a trio of young talents from the Conservatoire named after the famous Pesaro native Gioachino Rossini. It is organized in collaboration with the UNESCO Office Pesaro - Creative City of Music, the Gioachino Rossini Conservatory, the Embassy of the Czech Republic in Rome and under the patronage of the Czech Ambassador to Italy Jan Kohout. The two musicians will continue on to the next UNESCO City of Music, Varaždin, Croatia, where they will perform on Saturday 14 December at the Croatian National Theatre, where we will also welcome H.E. Milan Hovorka, Ambassador of the Czech Republic to Croatia.
On Friday, December 13, Czech Dreams will visit Amarante, Portugal, the third UNESCO City of Music in a row. The concert of piano master Ivo Kahánek will take place in the inspiring surroundings of the Solar dos Magalhães Palace, under the auspices and with the personal participation of H.E. Martin Pohl, Ambassador of the Czech Republic to Portugal.
The dynamic Gankino Quintet is heading to Southeastern Europe with Czech Dreams. On Friday, 13 December, he will perform at the Picabia Club in Varaždin, Croatia, and on Sunday, 15 December, his concert will be a gift given to the Slovenian town of Radovljica by its Moravian partner town Ivančice.
In Icking, Bavaria, on Saturday 14 December, the quartet music of Leoš Janáček, Viktor Ullmann and, of course, Bedřich Smetana will be performed. As part of the respected Klangwelt Klassik concert series, it will be performed by the excellent Bennewitz Quartet.
