Czech Dreams 2024
Magdalena Kožená in Verbier
Thanks to their precious patrons, Czech Dreams will visit the prestigious music festival in the Swiss Alpine resort of Verbier. Magdalena Kožená is one of the favourite artists of the Verbier Festival and will open the 31st edition of the festival with Mahler's Symphony No. 3 together with Sir Simon Rattle, the festival orchestra and choirs. On Monday 22 July she will perform in the local church together with the star pianist Kirill Gerstein; this matinee will be part of the Czech Dreams 2024 programme.
Magdalena's song recital travels from the picturesque landscapes of the Moravian-Silesian borderlands to the cabaret halls of Berlin in the early 20th century. With Leoš Janáček, she will pay tribute to the beauty of Moravian folk songs. It will continue with Wolf's musically diverse pieces, inspired by the changing moods of Mörike's poems, including a hilarious satirical waltz describing a critic's fall down the stairs. Rachmaninov's Six Songs follow, with sumptuous textures and chromaticism set to texts by modern Symbolist poets, and the evening closes with Schoenberg's flirtatious Cabaret Songs. A musical feast for true music lovers!
The Verbier Festival is an international classical music event that takes place each summer in the heart of the Swiss Alps in the mountain town of Verbier. The Festival’s mission is to build a community of exchange between great masters and young artists from all over the world and to be a leader in its field by providing meaningful music education programmes.
